Sure The Cat Saw Something

To be honest I have told this story many times and with each version comes a new twist. The twist is usually my wild imagination adding on details that make things a little more spooky. After reading some of the postings here I see similarities with my experience and so here goes my story, bare bones and without the twist.
In November 1996 I moved into a 4 bedroom house located in Richmond BC Canada. The place was great, hottub, pool table, games room, lotsa space and my roomates were fairly decent guys. After a month the origional renter had an opportunity to travel so he moved out. As soon as he left things started to get spooky. At first I dismissed the uneasy vibe as tension between my fellow roomates. One night a drunken conversation between myself and another roomate informed me of the house's history. Apparently the original renter was a childhood friend with the owner's son. The owner had moved out after a death in the family that may or may not have occured in the house and rented it to him. So I told my roommate that I was starting to get a weird tangable vibe from the place. This started the joke that I was living in the haunted master bedroom and that the ghost was out to get me.
One of our other roomates, (also a long time friend of the owner's family) stopped coming home. No one really cared becuse he was a wierd guy. He didn't really like us and we didn't really like him. As long as he paid his rent, where he stayed was his business. His room was always locked and there was a B & W photo from the film "The Shinning" on his door. You may know it, the famous "Heres Johnny!" image of Jacks face coming though a hole in the bathroom door. He also left a bunch of books on magic, wizards, religion, myths, etc. on the coffe table which added to the spooky feeling.
A month into this condition I quit using drugs (Alcohol, Tobbaco, Marijuana) because I was sure the paranoid repercussions of my mild drug habit were causing this uneasy vibe. Nothing changed.
Then one day the bathroom door slammed on its own. No one else was around and no open window offered a draft as explanation. I thought, 'big deal the bathroom door slammed. take no notice'. Then my brother came for a visit and after 5 min he expressed an uneasy feeling about the house and asked if we could go out to a resturant saying, "Man, there is something really wrong with this place." The same reaction came from several friends who came to visit and I began to seriously question what was going on.
At this point I had been sober for over a month, coming home from work was like entering a relam where you could almost touch the damp electric spooky feeling. One of of other roomates mentioned a strange incident and wierd feeling that he was starting to get. I discovered that burning smudge (like incesnse) and smoking out every nook and cranny in a house can remove paranormal entities. So I got some woven sweet grass from my sister and smoked the place out. As I was doing this my cat was going crazy following something with her eyes and chasing an invisible object around the room. When I walked towards her with the burning sweetgrass the cat ran away clawing at something in pursuit. Still to this day I have not seen her act in such a manner. I thought "right on its working!" and I could picture myself chasing the ghost out. The cat stopped at the locked door of my missing roomate and began to reach her paw underneath. I came up behind her and and all the hair on her back was standing straight up. I looked at the door and saw the picture. It finnally dawned on me, I came to the conclusion that maybe this weird guy knew about something in the house and it was now using his room as a hiding spot. Just then the phone rang, and it was him! I was in total shock and all he said was that he would be moving out the next day.
I didn't see him the next day and haven't spoken with him since. I often think its funny that I have this crazy idea about him and yet he knows nothing. Then I think its spooky because maybe he does know.
After that things seemed a little more normal but no matter how much I cleaned the house it always seemed dirty and I moved out three weeks later.
I wonder, what do you think of this story? Any ideas as to what I may have encountered? I also wonder why I was the primary candiate and had the most vibrant experience.
Although I never saw anything I am sure there was something there. If only my cat could tell me what she saw...
