Something Awry - Part II
From: Professor K (profk@wrack.org) Story type: Ghost Location: Sherman Oaks, CA Source: Form Submission
This is a continuation of a previous post. It gives a little history on the ghostly happenings here and a few examples of apparently benign presence(s) in the condo where we live. When these things have happened they don't seem to be 'scary' per se...except for one particularly frightening night.
I had just moved in with my girlfriend and at the time her brother still lived here. She had told me about some of the strange things that have happened in this place before and I was skeptical that I would ever experience them though I never doubted her accounts of the events that have taken place (mostly things happening of their own accord, a cold spot in the bedroom followed by a notable smell, that kind of stuff).
One night she was feeling a little under the weather and I was happy that I could put her to bed and get some much needed computer time in before coming to bed myself. I tucked her in, left the room, closed the door, and went out to the balcony for a smoke. Her brother was occupied on the phone. At this point, both of us were well away from the bedroom and in fact I couldn't hear anything going on inside from my seat out on our balcony.
Several minutes later, I see my girlfriend coming out of the room with tears streaming down her face. She came right outside and sat down on my lap. She kept saying that something terrible and scary had just happened. Finally, I got her to tell me about it.
She had been trying to fall asleep. The cat was in the room and from the window she made one of her scary meows, the kind she makes when she feels threatened by something. At this point, my girlfriend felt the covers being moved over her and a moment later she felt what she described as a 'scaley' hand or finger touch her on the back of the leg. I do believe she heard some voice right before that, but she is not here right now that I might verify. The story was frightening enough but the most sinister aspect of it was that somehow this thing had waited until she was alone.
At this obviously ghostly touch, she ran from the room, already very upset and in tears over the experience. After we had discussed it, and I had assured her that it wouldn't happen when I was in there, we went back into the room. Her brother knocked on the door a few moments later, done with his phone call. He asked if everything was alright. He must've heard the commotion in the room prior although we never asked why he checked up.
When we arrived back in the room I could tell that something had definately happened in there. The cat was very apprehensive about us entering the room - she arched her back and did this funny kind of jump that she does when she is 'en guard'. I said some soothing words to her (the cat) and she relaxed a little, but she was definitely on edge still, something had really shaken her up.
We layed back down on the bed and talked for a while and finally I turned off the light. I was sure it wasn't going to happen again, not with me in the room...but several minutes after the light was off my girlfriend broke out in tears again and said that it happened again, that she felt something touch her. I turned the light back on and we talked some more. Eventually she drifted off into sleep, but it must've been only a dream-like state that she was in because I actually had a conversation with her about a few things that she had no recollection of when she woke.
It was not a peaceful sleep, she was tossing and turning and saying things like "no..no..no". I kept thinking of Nightmare on Elm Street and would wake her up when she would seem like something was bothering her in her sleep.
Since this manifestation apparently happened again while I was in the room, I was a little freaked over the whole thing. I prayed for her to be rid of this, that she might have a good night's sleep. As I kneeled at the side of the bed and prayed, she turned towards me in her half-sleep (I could see that she was not really awake, I'm not even sure if she opened her eyes at all) and said "Awwww", like "how sweet".
Since I was in the middle of praying for her and had already had a strange conversation with her in her trance-like state I calmly asked her why she was cooing. She said (in nearly these exact words) "It's sweet, that you're doing that for me...it's not going to work, but it's sweet." Now this really had me freaked out. Had she been really awake I might've believed that she could tell I was praying but I knew that it would've been hard for her to detect this since at the very least she was still in the haze of sleep, if not almost fully asleep at the time.
Being a Christian I felt that whatever was or had been in the room with us was using her to try to discourage my prayer. I remained strong, asking God to please protect us from this presence. I finished my prayer and continued to watch her.
Not more than five minutes later she awoke from her fitful sleep. The first thing she said was "It's gone now" with a happy sigh...I asked her what she meant and she said that whatever it was had left and that it was 'over'.
She fell back asleep and shortly I turned off the light and fell asleep myself. This scary entity has not returned. Some of the minor disturbances still seem to occur, but they have been less frequent and never 'scary' like this night had been.
This has all left me with both a greater understanding and a greater question about that which lies beyond our perception. I think very often that many people want to believe we're just here, but there does seem to be somewhat overwhelming evidence that there is a lot more going on. I feel that God protects me, and now us, and that the light can only be followed through Him. I know there are probably a lot of people reading this who have not found faith, and I encourage you to seek it...If you seek with pure intent, you shall find.
I'd be interested in comments from those with similar
experiences, or anything you feel like sharing.
