The Smiley Face
From: Anonymous Story type: Ghost Location: a theater Source: Form Submission
There have always been rumors of a ghost living in the theater where I work. Everyone paid homage to her and left her flowers, but I had never really seen any physical evidence of her. Until one night, and then everyone onstage believed.
We were performing Fiddler on the Roof, and I was Nachum the Beggar. I wore a long, black coat, and for some reason I had some change and a few of my rings that I had forgotten to take off right before I went onstage in the pocket. We did a big dance where at the end we all fell down on the floor. As I got up, everything in my pocket spilled onto the stage in a big pile, all on top of each other. I didn't have time to pick it up before the lights came up again, so I just ran offstage. Later in that act, I came onstage again, and the coins were arranged in the pattern of a huge smiley face. I felt a chill at the back of my neck. What was she trying to tell us? Now, this was during a performance, and the coins were on the far corner of the stage, closest to the audience, so no technicians or actors could have monkeyed with them. After we all went backstage for intermission, we heard all these dogs howling very eerily.
They sounded like a pack of wolves! And then we began to hear someone crying in a most heartbreaking way. Everywhere we searched, the volume of the crying stayed the same. The ghost was moaning and crying as if her heart would break. As soon as the lights went off and on to signal the end of intermission, the crying abruptly stopped.
I am a very skeptical person, but this incident scared the heck out of me. Now I truly do believe in our heartbroken ghost. Does anybody know a way to comfort her? I really feel bad. I think she needs to be put to rest, but I don't know how. Suggestions would be welcome.
