The Family Ghost

This story involves my paternal grandmother and two of my cousins.It happened in a typical New England town about 100 or so miles north of NYC approximately 20 years ago.

As it so happened...one of the aforementioned cousins was in the hospital with a mysterious glandular disorder that put her close to death.At the same time...the grande dame of my paternal clan was housed elsewhere in the hospital... also near to death.

Soon thereafter...the grand old lady passed on.Funeral arrangements were made...the funeral came and went.

That same day...one of my cousins went to visit the cousin in the hospital.They got to talking and the sick cousin mentioned that granny had been there to visit her earlier in the day.Granny had told her...everything would be ok and that she'd be with her soon.

Now as it turned out...nobody had mentioned to this cousin that granny had died.They feared the stress from that news would be too much for her.

After quick calculation the visiting cousin figured granny made her visitation approximately the same time as her funeral!

Later that day...the sick cousin passed on.

Ramblings of a very sick person?Perhaps.Hallucinations brought on by medication?Also possible.But i prefer to think of this as the matron of the family performing her duties from beyond the grave!
