We lived in an apartment on Kennedy St which was surrounded with funeral homes. there were funeral homes on either side of us and one in front across the street. Our apt encom- passed the entire 3rd floor and no one occupied the 2nd flr apt. So, if anyone came to see us, we would know when they walked up the long steps to our apt. there is no way for for them leave without our knowing it.

One evening when I was in our apartment alone (my husband was visiting his folks) I was sitting in the living room talking to him on the phone. Our living room opens to a long hallway where the front door can be seen clearly. While I was on the phone, I distinctly heard loud footsteps coming towards our door. We had a boarder at that time and I announced to my husband that Lester is on his way up the stairs. I heard his key jingle as he fidgeted with the dead bolt lock to open the door. The door opened; the footsteps entered and then...nothing.

I called out for Lester with no response. I called out for anyone and still no response. I told my husband to hold and went to the door and NO ONE WAS THERE!! I demanded that my husband return this instant and immediately called the po- lice. An older cop showed up and immediately recognized the apartment and knew what I had seen. One that very day ten yrs ago a man returned early from work and walked in on his wife and some other man standing naked in the hallway. Be- he could react, the man panicked and grabbed a knife and stabbed the husband right at the door. The husband"s funeral was arranged by the FUNERAL PARLOR NEXT DOOR. Every year on this anniversary, he returns to the apartment and usually disappears right at the door.
