Why I'll Never Camp Again

I know you're all going to think "oh no, not another story from Borley Rectory" but, well, I can only tell you what happened. It was last Summer, about July time, when myself, my fiance and four friends decided that we needed some excitement. So, we decided to go camping. Now, if you don't already know, Borley Rectory is supposed to be the most haunted area in England, and seeing as we only lived about 10 miles away we decided that this would be the ideal place to go and see if the stories were true. We all thought that we were so brave!!! The following Saturday we packed up our things and off we went. There is a field behind the church and the site of the old rectory (new houses have been built on the site), so thats where we pitched our tents. From here we could see into the church and the gardens of the new houses. The day went without any particularly memorable event and as it got darker, we started to try and scare eachother. Everyone was a bit on edge I think, though none of us actually said anything. We had some fish and chips at about 9pm and then all sat around waiting for the "ghosts"! When it got to about 11pm, Gavin (my fiance) and I decided that we would like a bit of privacy (you know!!!), so we wandered off towards the church. We had been in the church porch for about 15 minutes when it suddenly got really cold, so we started to go back to the tents and the others. As we passed one of the large windows, Gavin suddenly stopped and looked inside. "Jesus, look at that" he whispered...... I looked in the same direction and saw a wierd glow inside the church, it wasn't actually a light, just a funny yellow glow. And it was moving towards the door. We just stood and watched, too scared to move. Suddenly, we started to run and made it back to the others in record time, trying to tell them what we had seen. I don't think they believed us and laughed, until Andrew stopped laughing and started to run. We all looked towards the church and saw the glow coming down the path towards us, we all ran at this point leaving the tents and everything else where it was. We made it back to the car and piled in. The glow was still coming in our diretion, it didn't actually look like anything except a glow, and it was moving quite slowly just above the ground. We were all hysterical and locked the doors. When it got to the end of the church path, it just disappeared. I think the whole incident lasted about 5-10 minutes, and we all saw it. Borley is a very quiet village, so we decided to leave all our camping gear where it was and go home, then come back in day light to pick it up. I don't know what it was, but it sure as hell scared us. We didn't tell anyone else because they would take the mickey out of us, I mean, we're all in our early to mid twenties and have our reputations to uphold. But we talk about it to eachother sometimes, and it still scares us. We've not been back since. Gavin and I have split up now and don't have any contact, but at least I will always know that none of us will ever forget that night and it will always make us all think of the others each time we remember it.
