The Chasing Light

I grew up in Bonneau, South Carolina. It borders the swamps and there are a lot of dirt roads that lead to nowhere. In the 60's a man and his son were coon hunting down one of these roads called Gravel Hill Rd. A set of train tracks cut across this road. The man carried a lantern and a pistol to kill the coons with once he caught up to his dogs. Well, he was crossing the tracks on Gravel Hill Rd when his son got his foot stuck in the tracks. As he was trying to pry it out a car full of teenagers came speeding down the road and hit the mans son before his foot could be freed from the tracks. The man's son died and a few days later the man shot himself. They never could identify the car that ran the boy over. Now any car that travels Gravel Hill dirt road at night is chased by a ball of light. It is the man looking for the car that hit his son. I always thought it was a bunch of crap until myself and some of my friends had it happen to us. We were going down Gravel Hill Rd on a Friday night headed to a weekend tradition of bonfire and beer. No one had anything to drink yet. We stopped right on the train tracks to grab a few from the cooler in the truck and get the night started. As I climbed back in the car I noticed a ball of light slicing through the woods and heading toward the car. I handed the keys to Josh so he could start the car but it wouldn't start. The light just kept circling the car for about 30 seconds. It felt like forever. I was scared to death. I finally knew the story was true. Then out in the distance you could see another light. Slowly it got bigger and bigger. We realised it was the train. We looked around and the light that was circling us was gone. The car still would not start. We were too scared to get out of the car but we did anyway and managed to push it off of the tracks. The train roared by and we waited for about 15 minutes. Finally the car started and we made it home. That was a night I will never forget.
