Love from Grandpa

About eight years ago, I was going to Chicago for my summer vacation to visit my grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I was staying at my grandmother's house, which was very old. I don't know the exact year it was built, but it was old enough that there was no air conditioning, and the heating units sat on the floors of each room in this two story home. I knew before I arrived that my grandfather had passed away a short time earlier.

My grandmother told me that some very strange occurrences had been going on around the house. Now, I had always had belief in the theory of life after death. I had seen things that you would think would confirm and strengthen such a belief, but I hadn't classified at that point to the "beyond the shadow of doubt category" just yet. I did not expect to get just that that summer. She told me of how one of grandpa's daughters was sleeping over there one night, how someone leaned over her, pulling the covers over her, kissed her, and said, "good night, sweetie." She woke up the next morning, and no one in the house and done that or would do that.

I witnessed strange occurrences the entire time I was there. There was a rocking chair in the room I was staying in . One day in particular, I was alone in the house. I was changing my clothes. The chair was completely still. I was in the walk-in closet in my underwear, looking through my suitcase for something to wear. Something told me to move the closet door, and look behind it. The chair was rocking...really rocking, as though someone just got out of it. I was alone, and nowhere near it to cause that.

Another occurance was when I was in my room, getting ready to go to sleep. There was a touch lamp in the room, where you touch the base of the lamp to turn it on, and adjust the light setting. I put the lamp on the lowest setting, and turned around to go to bed. The lamp went up another two settings when I turned around. I said, "Ok. It's an old house. Maybe it's the wiring.". So, I turned around and put the lamp back on the lowest setting. I turned back around to go to bed. It happened again! This pattern went on for about two or three more times thereafter, until I said "Grandpa, cut it out", put it back on the lowest setting, and it stopped.

Now, hold on to your hats. This is the most memorable part of strange occurrences in that house. It's a real shame that I did not have a video camera on this because this was what truly did it for me. One night that summer, it was extremely hot and humid (those of you who have been to Chicago in the summer know this). I was very conservative at the time, and not privy to sleeping in the buff, or I would have, it was killer! I had the window wide open, and my covers strewn about all over the bed. I was tossing and turning, and it was taking me forever to get to sleep! Well, I finally fell asleep. My eyes popped open at about 6am. I had to go to the bathroom. I tried to get up, but I couldn't sit up. I moved my head and looked down. The bed had been neatly made over me...so much so that the covers were tucked ALL THE WAY IN!!! My arms were laid out neatly on top. I asked my grandmother if she did it. No. Asked my aunt who was living there if she did it. No. Asked my two cousins if they did it. No. I know they were telling the truth, because frankly, they are serious minded individuals. Practical jokes is not their "cup of tea". No one else was in the house. I think this was my grandfather's way if letting me know that even though he was not here physically, spiritually, he was very much around!
