Millikin's Not-So-Secret, Secrets
From: Kim MacDonald (nature_buff@yahoo.com) Story type: Ghost Location: Millikin University Source: Form Submission
I attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL and while I was there, I heard a lot of stories of ghosts.
Zeta Tau Alpha: The house is home to a little girl's spirit. My friend who lived in the house for a year moved out in part because often she would awake to the sensation of being choked and would hear the sound of a little girl laughing and playing. Others saw the little girl playing on the floor of the dormer, mostly during the afternoon. Also, according to my friend, there is a section in the building that was closed off during the renovation to add the dormer and is not accessible in any way, but every once in a while, you can see that a light has been turned on through the window. When we drove by once, we saw it and I thought my friend would jump out of the car while we were still moving.
Albert Taylor Theater: This small theater located in the main education building, Schilling, is home to another child's spirit. Everytime there is a play, they have to put candy out backstage because if they don't things start to go wrong (i.e. sets fall and props disappear). I was friends with a lot of musical theater students and some of them have witnessed strange occurances. They would run to get candy to make sure things calm down as fast as possible.
Old Gymnasium: The old gymnasium is used for storage of props and sets for both Albert Taylor and Kirkland Theater. One particular night my friend S. was in there getting some props for rehearsal when he heard something walking on the bleachers that encircle the court area of the gym. He thinks he heard whistling, but is not sure.
BWA (acronym for the three women only dorms that sat end to end with a fishbowl between them): I only heard vague stories about this one, but supposedly a girl committed suicide by jumping out of the window in her room. That window is now bricked up, but it's not very well camouflaged.
I hope that these stories entertain you if nothing else.
