I have lived in my apartment for about two years now. I dont know the history of the apartment but I do know per my landlord that it was built sometime in the 1800's and it is really close to the courthouse so I am thinking maybe this may have been a hanging gallow. I went to the grocery store one evening, when I returned home I found my husband creeping around the corner, when he saw me he looked relieved. He stated that earlier he had come to the stairs to help me with the groceries because he heard me coming up the stairs, but when he reached the stairs, no one was there. I was a little hesitant to believe him at first, but not two days later, the man who lived up there before us asked us, "So have you met the ghost on the stairs yet"? I froze. He stated that his wife didnt work and she was home for most the day, and she would often hear footsteps on the stairs. There are no other stairs around us, only ours. So up until this point I had yet to hear the footsteps, but in Feb of 00 I was unemployed, I would lay on the couch in the morning and sleep until about seven am. Several times I heard the sound of someone or something, running up the stairs and then back down, I was always afraid to look, then one morning I decided to look, the noise was coming from our stairs and the banister was shaking. After that, I have heard it more often and a couple of times I have seen a movement out of the corner of my eye, one night I was walking up the stairs and caught a glimpse of someone behind me in the window.
