The Lady of the Lake

When I was about 17, myself and a bunch of my friends were camping on the banks of Fort Phantom Lake. We had been there a while and had just settled down to roast
marshmallows and talk. A friend of mine said that she had seen something in the bushes about an hour earlier, but we all dismissed it as a skunk because the aroma in the air told our noses that was
exactly what it was! Anyway, we were all talking about the legend of Fort Phantom Lake, About the woman that lost her child in the waters of the lake and drowned herself from her grief. She is said to still walk the banks of the lake searching for her
child. We continued to talk about her and there were skeptics among us when I looked up and saw something walking on the water coming towards our camp. I stood up and said "What is that?" All of us stood up and
looked, and this "thing" walking directly towards us coming closer and closer. All of my friends scattered! Some going in the tent and others in their cars. I couldn't move! I was frozen with fear and tried to move but
couldn't!!! As this "thing" came closer I could see it was a woman with a long white flowing gown. She walked the entire way up the bank, into our camp, through me, YES, through me and into the trees about ten feet behind me. When she walked through me I felt so cold and chill bumps came up all over my body! A few of my friends saw this, and after the ghost disappeared, came over to me. I sat down right where I stood and was in a trance for about an hour after that. I don't remember the hour after it happened (while in the trance) but when I came around the camp was packed up and my friend that saw the "skunk" earlier was slapping me to wake me up. We got in the car and left. To this day I have been out to Fort Phantom Lake to fish or camp. But when we do, we camp on the opposite side of the lake. I have never returned to the
exact spot where this happened and don't have any plans of doing so. I can only hope that maybe the "Lady of the Lake" has found her child and the peace that she was looking for on that summer night only a short while ago.
