I am not sure how to categorize this story exactly. The one universal factor is that the man i am going to talk about in this story only appears moments before or after a serious NDE.

It was October 1998- three years ago. I was 16 and riding my bicycle home from work through a dangerous intersection. I had a bad feeling as i crossed that intersection; as if something had just been set in motion and could not be stopped. A Ford Explorer ran a red light and i met it towards the other side of the intersection directly centered in front of it. Time slowed down. There were many thoughts in my head as I flew and twirled through the air now. Mostly about how mad I was at the person behind the wheel.

The twirling stopped and the pavement came into focus; coming closer. I threw out my hands to brace for the next traumatic impact; but I came down so fast my elbows just gave out and I ended up cracking my head into the street anyway.

I was still conscious now; and began to roll to my left. My head was lined up with the right front tire of the SUV; which was still coming at me and only beginning to stop. Mind you i've just been smashed by a car and thrown into concrete in what must have been less than a second. As i told myself to "GET UP!!!" in my mind; and weakly began to push myself to my feet- it felt like someone grabbed me under the arms and forced me up to my feet and out of the way.

I stumbled around for a bit before limping over to the passenger side of the vehicle to go pound on the window and call the young female driver a variety of not so nice names which i later apologized for. After realizing how much in pain I was; maybe a minute or so of standing up:

I went to go sit down on a grassy corner of a gas station. It began to rain. Thin blood mixed with the rain began to roll down my face like a river from a cut on my scalp. I laughed then; as if the rain felt sorry for me and was trying to clean me up.

A family of four in a pickup pulled up next to me and the parents of two small children came over to ask if I was allright. I pushed on my legs where much of the impact was absorbed to see if anything was moving.

I said something to the effect of "yeah; i'm fine- please leave me alone." I just wanted to hold my legs and clench my teeth and try not to give in to the pain and be alone. They went back inside their pick up truck and waited for emergency crews to arrive. I really was ok though. I hadn't broken a single bone.

I gazed off into traffic and watched the storm come and the rain fall. Suddenly there was a touch on my shoulder. A man dressed in all black was standing there. He was no taller than 5'10" wore a trench coat. Had very short hair; an overgrown buzz cut. Semi-gaunt looking face. very defined features- very black eyes. In those eyes it seemed to be storming as well; as if they were mocking the weather. I was totally unaware of his approach.

"Are you allright?" The man asked. Again i checked to see if anything was broken and replied with a simple "I think so." He looked at me for a moment and sort of smiled. "You sure? You don't need any more help?"

"Naw.- i'll be ok thanks." I said.

"Allright; see ya." I nodded up to him from my seat on the lawn in reply. He turned around and his trench coat fluttered by my face in the wind. His left foot stepped out of my sight as i began to look down to the large bruise forming on my leg; and glanced over at backed up traffic- I heard sirens approach from the direction of where the man left towards; not more than two seconds after his first step from me.

I looked over my left shoulder to see an ambulance coming down the road. I remember that glance in a picture perfect freeze frame today. On the far left side was the Green pickup with the family in it. On the right was a wall of traffic; no one getting in or out of their car. In the background was a gas station. In the foreground where the man should have been was simply an open lawn and empty parking lot. Too much open space to dissapear from my sight so quickly. It wasn't until the next time I saw him that i realized his dissapearing act that day.

That was last may after waking up briefly from surgery to remove my ruptured appendix and stop the spreading bacterial infection. Which is my fault because i waited much too long to go to the hospital and figured my body would heal itself. Nope.

It wasn't until last week when i heard I am not the only one who has seen this man around the time of NDE's.

He walks but doesn't seem to touch the ground. He has a face but you can never see it clearly- just the eyes. His laying of hands even for a moment can be comforting;- and you feel as if you've known him a very long time.

Have you seen the man in black?
