Out of Body Experience

I believe I had an out-of-body experience when I was about six or seven years old. Since the time I began dreaming, which was about two years old, I have had dreams about flying. There's a wonderful, yet frightening feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you fly in your dreams. If you've ever had a dream where you were falling and you suddenly wake up with the same feeling you get from a big drop on a roller coaster, you can relate that feeling with that of flying. As a small child, I loved roller coasters and therefore, loved dreaming about flying.

One night, as with many nights, I slept over at my grandmother's house. I loved sleeping on the couch in the front room in a sleeping bag, for what reason, I don't quite know.

That night, I remember waking up and turning my head to the right and was looking eye-level with a large haning wall ornament which was mounted high enough on the wall that if I were to stand on the couch, I would be looking up at it. I turned my head back and was looking at the ceiling, but I could almost touch it I was so close. As soon as I turned my head back to the ornament and realized what I was looking at, I fell down several feet to the couch.

I felt the same exhilerating feeling as I always got from flying in my dreams or when I was on a roller coaster. I know that I wasn't standing, because I was too short to look eye-level with the wall ornament.

I felt that I had an out-of-body experience, or astral projection, because I had such a unique perspective and sensation that I was never able to recreate. For several weeks after that experience, I slept on the couch under the wall ornament hoping that I could have another "experience". I was never able to have another astral projection experience on the couch, but I continued to have dreams of flying, which in itself could be considered astral-projection.
