Meditation Scare

This is my second submission to this page, the first being an OOBE titled "Psydream?".

I was studying for a final exam, astronomy, and was feeling a little stressed, so I decided to meditate to prepare myself for the test.

While meditating, I fell into a trance state, and began "seeing" intensely vivid images...a giant bonfire built on sand in the middle of a dark place [nighttime, pitch black]. The light of the fire made a circle on the ground, and at the edges of this light I could see bare feet scuffling by. I began to hear a rhythmic drum beat, and several male voices chanting a one-word line in time with the beat, it sounded like the chant was "Go...Go...GO", getting louder with each repetition. There was an extreme sensation of malice or pain.

My eyes snapped open as the chant seemed to reach a climax. I jumped to my feet immediately thereafter, and turned towards my apartment door. At that moment, the exterior light of my apartment [directly on the other side of the door] fell and shattered on the ground.

Things like this happen to me quite frequently during meditation, and any feedback as to why would be great.
