The Paranormal Page: Archive X Newsletter__________Paranormal Prelude: A message from the editor
Could be a Good One
Even though I've been maintaining Archive X for about 10 years, I don't have a keen interest in the paranormal. I find it intriguing, but it's not high on my list of cool things. I don't watch The Ghost Whisperer, Medium, or any of the ghost hunting shows. I prefer murder and mayhem; CSI, Dexter, Justified, The Mentalist, Forensic Files, those kinds of shows.
After watching the first Twilight movie, I pretty much decided I wasn't interested in vampires vs. werewolves in books, movies or otherwise. However, I may have to make an exception. Last night I caught Being Human on the Syfy Channel.
Only after looking into it further today, I found it is the US version of a BBC production. Over the years there have been many British shows I loved. But I also learned that when the Americans decide to make their own version of a Brit show, it often falls flat and isn't anything near as cool or engaging as the original. Which is why I'm surprised I liked Being Human, the US version.
If you aren't familiar with the show, Brit or otherwise, it's about a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf trying to be "normal" despite their non-human traits. There were several great dialog moments, and the season set up looks quite promising. I know I'll be tuning in next week with the hopes that this show really is on a roll.
I may be out of my body, but that doesn't mean I'm out of my mind.Janet Spitzner, editor

Paranormal Patter: Comments
Hauntings: Ghost or Phantasm?by Marc Rice
As we go about our day to day business we receive tons of information from our interactions with others, both verbal and non-verbal. And every night while our conscious minds shut down our subconscious mind attempts to filter and assimilate everything we have experienced with its symbolism. Symbols. Everything appears to have a double meaning that ultimately is connected to something else. Does everything get assimilated in its proper place? What if what we experience on a daily (or nightly) basis is too stressful to be assimilated with just 8 hours of sleep? Does our subconscious mind just assimilate what it can and leave the rest for us to deal with at a later time? How much can we accumulate before we experience a breakdown? How much is enough? It seems that if we are to keep our sanity we need to become masters of polarizing our emotions.
But most of the world's population doesn't meditate, does it? And it could be argued that there are many people who live very stressful lives who never experience some kind of breakdown. So, what happens to all of that emotional residue? If it isn't being assimilated and dealt with, then it is definitely being released in some manner. But, where does it go? Does it just disappear?
Let's take the scenario of an abusive relationship into consideration for a moment. Both partners are physically and verbally abusive to each other and always seem act out their rage in the same area of their house on a regular basis. This violent exchange takes place year after year until they eventually leave the dwelling. After a period of time, another couple moves in, a couple who's relationship is for the most part healthy. Within a year they find themselves in an argument that leads to some yelling and flared tempers in the same area of the house where the aforementioned abuse took place. Without warning tables begin to slide across the floor with no one pushing them, dishes fly across the room and smash against the wall on their own accord. The argument stops and the couple flee from their home in terror with a fair amount of certainty that their home is haunted. But, no one died in the home and the original couple is still alive. If it wasn't a ghost, what was it?.... It's called a phantasm.
The word phantasm is a derived from the Latin word phantasma and it denotes an artificial elemental with no physical form. A phantasm can be created intentionally by an experienced energy worker/shaman by deliberately imprinting an object with their energy and bringing it to life by elevating their emotion during this process. This process is often called "charging" by most modern neo-pagan traditions. A phantasm (artificial elemental) can also be unintentionally created by people who experience a repeated cycle of extreme emotional outbursts in a particular area. The word phantasm is often confused with the word egregore, but they are not the same. An egregore is a thought form that is a part of a group mind. Churches, covens, guilds, lodges, etc. all have a group mind or egregore. A phantasm is a thought form as well, but it is a thought form that is either wittingly or unwittingly imprinted upon a person, place, or thing through the release of emotional extremes. We all control our environment whether we know it or not, like it or not.
In the scenario of the abusive couple who imprinted their home with their extreme cycles of rage, the imprinted energy (phantasm) remained dormant until the anger of the new couple fostered its release. This is called a "trigger." Most esoteric systems of study follow the law of sympathy, the idea that like attracts like. Simply put, the imprinted energy could only be released through a similar event or emotion that put it there in the first place.
When a person, place, or thing is imprinted with excessive emotional energy and that energy is left there for a period of time, the energy can develop some form of identity or sense of itself. Such an awareness may be rather limited but does have the potential of becoming stronger with time. When people experience a haunting or possession of this kind they often feel discouraged when their spiritual leaders are unable to remove the problem. Phantasm's have no place in any spiritual hierarchy and thus have no fear of any deity or archetype. This is why many exorcism's do not work. Imprinted energy that has developed a sense of independence can only be subdued by transmuting their vibrational frequency from one state to another. You can change the intent and direction of the energy, but it will never be destroyed or sent to some kind of hell dimension.
