Other-worldly Concerns > Near Death Experiences
How would scientists explain this....

I don't mean to oversimply but...perceptions arn't always the same i agree....but the same perceptions can always be similiar.
If we were all surprised by getting a flashlight beamed into our eyes. Everyone would report the same thing right? But not exactly....
Some would say...This dude shone a really bright light in my eye.
SOmeone else....I saw a bright white light
another person...I saw a beam from something...or I don't remember what happened, but now all i can see is spots in front of my eyes....
experiences may differ, but the transition from "life to death" may be the same.
If i accidently hit you in the nose with a baseball...and then someone else...i'm sure they would describe in all different ways how much it hurt...but that pain is always there...just like the white light is to everyone else...and that's my big yap....:)

I agree we'd feel pain, but describe differently how it felt. But, I think death is more personal. Most people agree if you get whacked with a bat, it's gonna hurt. But, what I am wondering is why is the process so similar? Is there a law somewhere that says "if you die, this is what you experience?" Where does this come from?
I also agree with Shastar in the fact that science can reproduce many things. Doesn't mean it's the only way those things come about though.

that's a good question...but being in a state of OOBE and hearing things happen etc in the same room could still be explained...I don't know if you ever tried this...but to some extent...talking to people while they're sleeping does sort of work but not the way we think.
If someone were Having an OOBE, it may simply be a state of mind of half dreaming and half waking.
Even NDE like how i mentioned the brain still functioning without the heart beating...the brain can still potentionally be able to hear things...the only thing that seems to transcend my logic..are people who have OOBE and describe in detail events of their environments despite their eyes being closed...so i guess i can't explain that.
Scientifically speaking in regards to OOBE or NDE or ghosts paranormal etc....one must disregard all beliefs (which are too biased) before accepting the existence of anything to find TRUTH or an explaination.
I choose a state of disbelief for anything concerning the paraormal but maintain some "blind faith" that anythings possible.

I like this. This is pretty much how I feel about it.

My major problem with science is that way to many theories these days are represented as facts. Science has come up with theories in the past that were believed to be true, only to be proven false later.
all_outta_angst:
but isn't it our responsibility to either accept their facts as true or not? In a simple consumerist society, we're told ALL the time that this and that will help trim the fat. The faults shouldn't be on the scientists, but us to critically analyze what facts are true and which arn't. It's too simple to blame "scientists" who claim outrageous things don't you think?
